Killed that annoying Rescue and Recovery Password prompt

#1 Post by Ground Loop » Sat Jul 23, 2005 5:50 pm

For the most part, the ThinkPad utils have been useful and welcomed on my laptop -- except for this annoying nag window that pops up at random times and for no conceivable reason:
"You can also set an IBM(R) Rescue and Recovery(TM) password at this time."
Why would I want to? I don't have a password on my own backups -- don't want one. But there is no selection for "Never bug me about this again. NO PASSWORD EVER, Mmmkay?".

I found the culprit.. it's the "ibmprc.exe" program.
It's run automatically at startup, and can be surgically removed with msconfig.

I have no idea what other functionality I might have lost, but I'm okay with that.

Thanks for your post of long time ago. It really helped me get rid of this nag which also says:

Choose one of the following ways to set your password

Hope this helps someone else
