good price for memory?

#1 Post by pphilipko » Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:48 pm

I just bought a 512mb PC2700 333mHz SODIMM for $46 US. Did I get ripped off? :?

Hmm... I bought a 256MB DDR SODIMM of the same spec for $34 a few months ago, and a 512MB SODIMM was in the $70 range, IIRC. Those prices were through Crucial (but using the memory selector on a Dell Inspiron 1100). So, I'd say you got a great deal.

No, because apparently you didn't buy it from Lenovo or Crucial.

The same price can be found at newegg.com. Faster service than Ebay, no-question return, and lifetime warranty.

Anyone know what the maximum addressable memory an X30, X31, and X32 has? When I bought my X30, I thought I read it was 2 GB (2 slots of 1 GB), but I know the X40 has a 1.25 GB limit (1 slot of 1GB).

I'm looking at buying either a X32 or X4*. Sort of siding on the X32 and it will be the icing on the cake if it can handle >= 2GB.

Well, the reason the X40 only supports 1.25GB is that there's 256MB on board, and a slot that can take up to 1GB.

The X31/32 has two slots, and should be able to take 2GB.

I don't know whether the chipset in the X30 can handle 2GB, though - it's an older chipset.

*sigh* I live in Canada, so that option isn't open to me. :?

It can go up to to 1.5 GB, if you bought the 512mb version.
