eComStation and Thinkpads?

#1 Post by BigWarpGuy » Tue Jul 26, 2005 8:42 am

Has anyone tried eComStation ( http://www.ecomstation.com ) on a Thinkpad? Which model of Thinkpad did you install it on? Were there any problems?

I am trying to install eCS onto a Thinkpad 600 once I have replaced the hard drive (one on order). :) I tried to install it on a Thinkpad 760EL but it did not work out (could not boot from the cd and it seems to have problems with the external diskette drive; I might try to find an external cd drive that works with the 760EL and use an internel diskette drive to see if that works :) ).

I'm running eCS 1.2 on a T40. Installed without any problems.

No problems on a TP 600

I have installed eCS 1.0 and 1.1 on a couple of 600 and there has never been a prolem.
Just boot from the eCS CD#1.

AIf you have eCS 1.1 you can even choose to have a TP600 setup installed from the meny (even in "easy installation"-mode).

I've never installed eCS 1.1 but I put eCS1.2 on a TP 385XD along with W98 and Boot Manager. I have now "graduated" to a T23 with eCS 1.2 and w2k. The later is used very little. :-)

Would not boot :( ; Bought another Thinkpad :)

#7 Post by BigWarpGuy » Sun Sep 25, 2005 3:41 pm

I created a Win98 boot disk with my Dad comptuer (it has Win98). It would not boot to Win98. I tried two different dieskette drives and tried both with an external drive holder for the 600. It would not boot. I will give up trying. I will use the hard drive in a Mini-Itx project ( http://tomleem.homestead.com/myminiitxprojects.html ; perhaps in the OS/2 Warp box or the Jupiter/2 toy or the TI-99/4A shell [the second is a very small space to put a hard drive and cdrom drive]). :(

I have ordered a refurbished Thinkpad T21 (IIRC). It was $400.00 at http://www.shoppersadvantage.com ). I upgraded it to 256 meg ram. It comes with Win98 but I will install eComStation onto it. I will return with the results.

Alt-f2 Results

#9 Post by BigWarpGuy » Mon Sep 26, 2005 12:41 pm

The results of pressing alt-f2 at bootup is 'cdfs.ifs \ibmcdrom.dmd a:\hpfs.ifs\locatecd.sys' . This shows when it stops installing eCS 1.1.
