Why are ThinkPad apps so HUGE?

#1 Post by Ground Loop » Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:45 am

I was looking at the size of some of the installed software and can't believe what it's reporting.

IBM ThinkPad Presentation Director: 50.27 MB!
Seriously? 50 megabytes?
EasyEject is only 1.68MB -- that's more like it.

IBM ThinkPad UltraNav Driver: 24MB. Come on.. most mouse drivers fit on a floppy with room to spare.

Are these programs really this large, or is the Add Remove Programs window mistaken?

Hmm... mine is different? Presentation Director is 39.2MB, but R&R is 68.4MB. Still big tho.

Did you see that the size of Presentationdirector and Battery Maximiser in Add/Remove Programs is exactly the same? The reason is that both programs (and some more) are located in the same folder. Never believe the sizes in Add/Remove Programs.
T40p 2373-g1g: 1.6 GHz, 1536 MB RAM, 160 GB @ 5400 rpm drive, 64 MB Video, IBM a/b/g II, CD-RW/DVD Combo II, M10 Fan, Ubuntu 8.04
