help: wireless adapter on T42 thinkpad

#1 Post by mellie » Wed Jul 27, 2005 5:48 am

hi everyon, new to the forum 8)

anyway ive just bought a d-link wireless router and ive been trying to configure my thinkpad to use the internet wirelessly
my thinkpad is

Product: ThinkPad T42 2373-6YM
Original description: P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 15 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

also on my thinkpad, there's an intel centrino mobile techology sticker, and that to my knowledge means that it contains a wireless adapter
however when trying to look for the wireless adapter in device manager, i couldnt locate it

can i someone please help

Here is the link for the driver for your wireless adapter:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59438

Download the text file and follow the instructions for installation.

In device manager, the wireless adapter should show up under 'Network Adapters'. If you have any red X's or yellow !'s , then your wireless adapter's drivers may be installed improperly. Right click on those devices, and uninstall. Then follow the directions for installing the driver. Following is the link to get to the driver matrix page. The software installer there works quite well. Just make your choices in the drop down boxes to get to the driver matrix page for your laptop, or if you are using Internet Explorer and are logged on as Administrator, you can chose Detect my system.

If your wireless adapter still doesn't show up in device manager, download and run PC Doctor (although it may be on your laptop already - check under Start > All Programs).

Have you checked to insure that the adaptor isn't turned off? If you are running Access connections, press FN+f5, then select to turn on all wireless radios. When I got my T43, I couldn't find my Bluetooth radio at first. After about an hour of playing around, I finally thought to check if it was turned on and sure enough it wasn't.

this is strange, i have the same problem. i ordered a 2373-hbu, supposedly with the intel 2200 bg wireless adapter. but when i received my t42p, it shipped with a pentium m sticker, not a intel centrino sticker. and i cannot even detect a wireless adapter. i've even tried downloading all the drivers and installing them, but nothing is working. is there a third-party software i can check to see exactly what hardware is existing on my computer. because the window's system information is a bit vague.

Yes,

A very good one is Belarc advisor, available free from:

There are two other places to look. Launch Access IBM. Go to: Get Help & Support > Find support information > Warranty and parts information, and scroll down the screen. Secondly you can go to: Start > All Programs > PC-Doctor for Windows > PC-Doctor.

The 2373-HBU is a CTO machine and doesn't ship with a WiFi card, memory, a HD or an optical drive!

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... y=2373-hbu

Where did you purchase this machine? Did you build it to order at IBM online?

yes, i know that the 2373-hbu is a CTO machine, and i did order the HD, optical drive, and i distinctly remember asking if it shipped with wireless internet as standard. and i do remember my rep telling me "yes". i'm going to check out belarc first before i call i suppose. however, if you go to the lenovo site, and go to the notebooks special offers>manager picks, then you'll see the 2373-hbu selling, and on the description, it says that there is the intel 2200 bg adapter....strange... but i'll check out belarc once i get home, and i guess if i don't have it, i'll have to order one from lenovo...which is kinda sh*tty since i thought i had bought it with the wifi.

If you received a confirmatory email from them after making your purchase, it should list everything that was included in the sale, including a WiFi card.

Call your salesperson and point to the manager's special website for your unit showing the WiFi card listed as part of the sale. Then tell them to send you one, FREE!
