T43 2668 1GB Crucial Memory Upgrade HELP!

#1 Post by fjearr » Wed Jul 27, 2005 6:52 am

Hi Guys.

Has anyone purchased a 1GB PC2 4200 DDR2 533mhz memory stick directly from the Crucial website? If not what model no# have you guys purchased? either CT435138 or CT12864AC53E?

Has anyone actually purchased the CT435138 which is specifically developed by Crucial for the T43 or is it just a myth as some fellow forumers have discovered?

I have heard that people who pay the extra 16 odd so dollars for the CT435138 from the Crucial website actually end up getting the CT12864AC53E ($139.99)

Those with the CT12864AC53E have you guys hada good experience with this memory? should I just skip past trying the CT435138 and go straight to the CT12864AC53E?

Any help would be appreciated, especially anyone who actually has purchased and RECEIVED the CT435138! and is there any difference between the two performance wise..

Cheers

re: 1GB T43 Crucial Memory Difference

#5 Post by fjearr » Thu Jul 28, 2005 9:55 pm

Hi Guys.

I emailed Crucial to ask the million dollar question of wether or not there is a CT435138 (T43 specified 1GB PC2 4200) because everyone who orders this model seems to get shipped the CT12864AC53E which is $18 cheaper.. Below is the email I received, unfortunately I can't make much sense of it and cannot confirm wether or not there is a difference between the two models.. If anyone can understand it enough to translate and answer the million dollar question Im sure everyone would be grateful..

<<"Thank you for your email. When you order by advanced search or by <<a motherboard, you are shown the "base" part number. When you
<<order online by the system information, you are shown what we refer
<<to as an "external" part number. The part number that you see on your <<module is the actual module part number. If you order by the <<advanced search or motherboard, the base number is included in the <<part number on the module. I do confirm that external part number <<CT435138 is the actual base part number of CT12864AC53E."

Okay, its not hard to understand. There is no special line of crucial memory fo the IBM thinkpad. Crucial offers two ways to search for memory. For those computer savy people, they offer the technicals. Click DDR2, then SO-DIMM, them PC-4200, ther you go! For the unsure about how memory works, they offer the memory finder. They give you the EXACT same chip for $15 to $20 more. WHY? One, they guarantee it will be the right memory for the system. If you have some old off-brand computer and get it through memory finder, and they happen to give you the wrong memory for the system, they will replace it. This service cost money, even though it is probably a rare occurance because its got a good database. With the first (cheaper) method, they offer no such guarantee, so be [censored] sure before you buy its the right kind. (Even if it works, but is wrong for your system, you're outta luck, better know your stuff) Two, they offer peace of mind for idiots that they know will pay up. If a soccer-mom or busy buisness man doesn't want to learn about memory, he just clicks in his computer model and hits BUY. Its kind of like a valet service for memory. Quick, easy, but it will cost you. And, you could of done it yourself for cheaper if you wanted to put in the effort.

GET IT ?!?

I'll suggest part # CT12864AC53E (CT12864AC53E.16FB) it's for 139 + tax
If you use crucial memory Configurator tool it will show you Part # CT435138 But when Crucial Invoice and Ships the order The is same it will show you as
CT12864AC53E.16FB
CT435138

but price is 148.52.

USE coupan EOLPROMO (4% off) that will knock off 5.60 from (139) price.

I've bought both ways that's how I know it. i called crucial and tried to get credit but there was no way so I returned the memory and then repurchased
