Upgrade T22 XGA to SXGA+
Upgrade T22 XGA to SXGA+
My T22 mobo supports the SXGA screen, what parts would I need to upgrade? LDC + cable? anything else? Would I need a different LCD cover also?
Also, are these screens available as non-branded IBM parts? Slapping IBM on something seems to make it more expensive....
Or is this just a dumb idea?

I once considered doing what you've proposed and abandoned it.
I was not able to locate any OEM LDC displays that are specific to Thinkpad T-2x machines. The ones for sale on the internet are "pulls" from dead machines. These pulls in all likelihood have thousands of hours on their fluorescent backlights and the brightness of the LCD display will be disappointing at best. Their polarizers are also scratched by the keyboard keytops.
The number of 1400x1050 T-2x displays in the second-hand market is very small and their price is high enough to dissuade you from a retrofit.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim, I hadn't thought about the provenance of the ones that surface on eBay from time to time. Sounds like a dubious proposition, especially at the prices they go for.Jim Olson wrote:The ones for sale on the internet are "pulls" from dead machines. Just completed this on what was originally my T21. After replacing the system board with one from a T22 and adding a 1GHz CPU, I purchased a 'spares/repair' SXGA+ T22 from Ebay for £85 (~$145). It was missing drives and memory. I removed its SXGA+ LCD and put it onto my ex-T21, a 15 minute job, and now it's a fully fledged SXGA+ T22!!!! Screen looks fantastic - didn't even need the couple of reboots I had thought would be necessary. The backlight is plenty bright enough .... really, really delighted!!
