Yes, the uuid needs to be transferred over. See ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Manual on your model for information on the uuid, and how to transfer it to the new system board. You need to acquire a ThinkPad Maintenance Diskette to transfer the uuid to the new system board. With the link below, you can get to the page where you can download the Thinkpad Hardware Maintenance Manual.

Well, if you haven't already, I would read the section in the Hardware Maintenance Manual on Serial Numbers.
But further, here is a link on this forum that gives one reason you may want to have a valid Unit ID number.

actually Gom that post doesn't even mention uuid, he was missing the model/serial. Now I realize that either way, the hmd is needed regardless but I'm still scratching my head as to what it "identifies" above and beyond my system serial #????

You got me. I don't have that information. I did some searching with Google on the internet, but I was getting too many returns with unrelated information. It is not worth my time to search anymore. Good luck finding your answer.thinkpadz wrote:actually Gom that post doesn't even mention uuid, he was missing the model/serial. well, your still "the man" as far as I'm concerned
Thanks for the effort.
If you upgrade your sysboard and then want to resell your old one I guess your screwed??. I'm sure I can copy everything over fine but what about erasing the old one?
If i don't, then they are no longer "unique" am I right???
