Dead pixel... help!
Dead pixel... help!
I think I have a deadd pixel. It is not white, or black, but a grey/blue color. Someone told me that rubbing the back of the panel may help... can I have the full instructions for that, or for anything else that may fix it?
Here's the story: Best Buy has this DVD that flashes colors really fast in an effort to fix STUCK pixels, like what yours sounds like. I don't think it works on DEAD pixels. Anyway, someone made a similar video for the PSP, because it had so many problems, and people have had success. Read about it here:
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000223046447/
and, get a similar video here (got this from the comments in that story)
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/rgb.php
make sure to run this for 10+ hours, I think it has a 50% success rate. If your stuck pixels is in the corner, there is probably a way to make it full screen, but i'm not sure. If it is only one, don't replace it. If the replacement is worse, then your looking at two months out of service. Its not worth it.

what size screen and resolution?
you might have a hard time returning it anyway -- the official policy says you have to have multiple dead pixels to warrant a return

Have you tried giving it a slow Gentle rub? I have used my finger tip and my knuckle to gently rub out a few pixel that have gone stuck on my machine. Granted they were not stuck to begin with, they stuck somewhere along the life of the machine, but it has happened I think twice, maybe 3 times.Scorpiontico wrote:guys i have a pixel on the left down corner that only changes from black to green, nothing else.

There are also some software problems that looks like dead pixels. One is solved by pressing the middle button to scroll, and an other by a log off or a restart. If it is one of these then your screen is fine.

i too have a grey dead pixel in upper right corner of the screen. but its not so annoying and i will just leave it be. the colour is not so strong anyway to bother me. i think 6 dead pixels are needed to get screen replaced. and if you really need new screen and have just one dead, then make it 20 and replacement is yours:)

well....this forum is great..
regarding the dead pixels...
the software that controls the the scroll button is known to have a bug which causes the dead pixel problem. it (the "dead pixel")may appear once in a while and u can check it by placing ur mouse pointer exactly at the dead pixel. if it is the problem with the middle button code, then the mouse pointer will change to the scroll mode and all you have to do is to press the middle button. the dead pixel will be gone..
or a restart will do
else just play around changing the resolution a couple of times...
this is a quite recurring phenomenon on many of the thinkpads and if you uodate the driver might somewhat takes care of it.
here is a good tool to check whether u have dead pixels (on/off) on ur screen....

If you look at the link that drewnyc posted, you will read that each pixel is made up of subpixels; red, blue, and green. If you look at your display with a strong magnifying glass you should be able to see this.Scorpiontico wrote:guys i noticed something weird, i have a pixel that only works on black, green and blue colors AND nothing else.

That would probably be considered a dead sub-pixel. From what you're describing, it sounds like your red sub-pixel is dead.Scorpiontico wrote:guys i noticed something weird, i have a pixel that only works on black, green and blue colors AND nothing else.
