A20M (Hard drive not installed error)

#1 Post by singhsandy » Fri Jul 29, 2005 6:26 pm

My Thinkpad A20m stopped working all of a sudden. The Hard drive is not being recognized. I get the folowing message while booting "Hard disk not installed. If operating system not found please reinstall".

The BIOS also does not show my hard disk at all. However sometimes(twice in the last 5 days) my laptop started working normally till I moved it slightly or shut it down.

Also the BIOS setup takes very long to come up. The logo screen is displayed for a very long time before the BIOS setup can be reached.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? Pls. advise

Pull the HDD and RAM and re-seat them.

Thanks Deb.

I tried swapping the A20m hard drive with another thinkpad (T20) drive. The T20 harddrive worked fine in the A20m but vice versa failed.

So it looks like I may have to get another hard drive for my A20. Can someone confirm if the following drive listed on zipzoomfly.com will work in A20m

Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 40GB ATA-6 2.5in 5400RPM Mobile Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer (model HTS541040G9AT00 part# 13G1582)

Thanks,
Sandeep
