why are T43p so cheap on ebay

#1 Post by simonyiu » Sat Jul 30, 2005 1:47 am

Hi all,

I am planning to buy a T43p. I went to ibm.com and did a search on ebay and found out that the price listed on ebay are so much cheaper. Can anyone tell me why that is the case?

Also, I am a university student from Vancouver, Canada, what is the cheapest way to get a T43p?

Thanks,
Simon

The auction you have listed is not completed yet. The price usually goes up as the auction closes. Expect this one to go up a few hundred dollars at the end.

I love Ebay, that's where I got my Thinkpad. The trick to eBay is knowing when to bid and when to walk away. Just be carefull of the rampant scams and the to good to be true offers.

I paid $1,766.00 and it got me a Thinkpad T43 with the following specs:

Pentium M 1.86GHz
LCD SXGA+ 1400x1050
1.5GB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
60GB (5400 rpm)
DVD+/-RW
ATI x300 graphics card
Fingerprint reader
XP Professional
3 Year IBM Warranty

Including all the documents, standard accessories, with zero dead pixels, and pre-stress tested (per my request) with Prime95. If you buy on ebay, do the same thing. Make the seller test the machine and send you screenshots. Have them benchmark the system, make them install & run Everest Home Edition and email you the summery so you know exactly what your doing. You should even ask if they will allow the use of an ebay approved escrow service. If your going to lay down that kind of cash through ebay, expect to bug the hell out of them with questions and requests.

Go HERE. Relace my model number with yours (no hyphen) in the "for" box and click "go." Then click the "compare prices" button. The lowest prices on the internet will come up. I was able to get lower than eBay or IBM.; expecially when tax & shipping was considered.

I prefer buying from an online store than most eBay sellers. Just gives me more of a comfort level. May be false comfort, but ..... 8)
