New Hard Drive blues

#1 Post by vk60402 » Sat Jul 30, 2005 6:19 am

OK, I've got the Samsung MP0804H (80G, 5400 RPM). And I used EZ Gig II transfer kit to image the old 20G Hitachi that came with my machine onto the new drive.

1. The hidden system restore partition did not transfer. In other words, the new drive does not have the IBM system restore info, so at the boot up, when I press 'access IBM' button, it takes me to a dos screen asking me whether I want to press F1, ESC or Enter. Note: once I'm in windows, access IBM button works fine.

2. Occasionally I'd notice 'OS not found' error at the boot up. I see the error coming because on the power up, I don't hear the drive spinning. It looks like the computer does not know it is there. Once I try the power button a few times, then the hard drive spins and things are fine.

I've updated the BIOS and embedded controller and so far (2 reboots) things are OK. Anything else I should be looking at?

I've run PC doctor diagnostics on the drive and all tests are OK.

Thanks for your time.

ps. I have TP-R40 2691-CU1, 1.8P4-M, 640mb ram, 80G, 5400 rpm drive (so far) drive.
