Access Connections: Active ethernet port detected....save

#1 Post by compunorm » Sat Jul 30, 2005 11:09 am

This happens everytime my computer boots, comes out of hibernate, etc. when my ethernet is connected and I'm not using wireless.

Access connections requests which profile I should save it to. I select the same one everytime and yet it keeps asking. So, why save it if it is just going to keep asking me. Quite infuriating.

Has anyone else dealt w/ this?

(Yay, my first post)

I don't have the answer but I have the same problem. I turned this saving profile option off since I didn't know how to use it properly... Somebody else knows?

I currently don't have an ethernet connection handy, so it's kind of hard to really test anything on my end. One thing I can think of to try, is to run this program call filemon, and see if perhaps the permission settings on the profile 'file' are keeping you from saving it. Here is the site where you can get filemon along with other diagnostic programs.

One other possibility I thought of is that maybe your ethernet connection keeps assigning you a new, different IP address when your laptop comes out of standby, hibernation, etc.. Access Connections might be trying to save each IP address under the profile. You could verify if this is happening by checking to see what your IP address is, each time you connect. To do this, in Access Connections, click Network on the top menu bar, then Diagnostics..., then TCP/IP Settings. Here you will see what your current IP address is.
