New T43p 2687D5U - additional screw and fingerprint scanner

#1 Post by ionak » Sun Jul 31, 2005 5:00 am

I just got my new T43p 2687D5U and I have a few questions:

I got a single screw in a small plastic packet. This came along with another packet containing 2 additional trackpoint. Could anyone tell me what this screw is for?

I seem to take quite a number of attempts at swiping my finger over the fingerprint scanner before it recognises me. Has anyone else faced similar problems or does everyone who has a finger print scanner find themselves in a similar situation? Am I just not running my finger over the scanner correctly?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I believe the spare screw is for securing your hard drive.

IBM/Lenovo just released an update to the fingerprint software that reportedly works better. Go to Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Software Installer. While online, Software Installer will show you all available updates for your ThinkPad. You choose what you want updated. Software Installer works very well.

Actually, I think the screw is for securing the Ultra Bay Port (DVD/CD drive, extra battery, secondary hard drive, etc.).

You're probably right. I was just speculating, as I've seen so many used laptops with the hard drive screw missing.

Mine says it's P/N: 91P8567. The screw is not a regular screw; it looks like you would need a hex-driver (allen wrench...?).
