Access Connections/WindowsXP Tug-of-War

Is there a way to allow Access Connections to pick up whatever is the strongest signal when none of the networks in my profiles is present? I've been letting XP control the connection because of it's ability to do this. I'd prefer not to have to set up a different profile for every cafe or library or park I use my ThinkPad in.

If the answer is no, then is there a way to shut off Access Connections? Currently, every time I hibernate or start up, AC takes over for XP and I have to manually tell XP to "configure my wireless settings" rather than AC.

If it does not serve your purpose, uninstall it (Access Connections). The separate profiles I have for wireless are all secured, and Windows does not help that. I also have an unsecured wireless profile in Access Connections that requires no setup - I just have to connect it. ... JD Hurst

The answer to your first question I don't have, because at the moment I don't have access to outside wireless access points.

Regarding your second question, I use Access Connections, and it appears to me that Access Connections is shut off unless I want it.

I have Access Connections set up so that my home profile (the only one I have in it at the moment) does not start at Windows Log On. Go to Manage Location Profiles... > Edit... > click on the Wireless tab > Edit Wireless LAN settings... > Next > be sure that "Use this profile to connect during Windows log on" box is unchecked > Finish.

On the Options tab I have the following 3 boxes checked:
(1) Allow all users of this system to switch to any existing location profile
(2) Show wireless status icon in task tray
(3) Display the progress indicator window when a profile is being applied

I right click on the status icon in the task tray to exit Access Connections. When I reboot, I don't see the icon in the task tray, unless I restart Access Connections.
