thinkpad 760 caddy issues!

#1 Post by dense907 » Fri Jun 25, 2004 3:41 pm

Greetings,

I have a thinkpad 760 and also a IBM 3GB hard drive caddy.

Can this caddy support a Toshiba 2GB hard drive?

If possible, is there a listing of caddies for the 760 support what type of HDD and size. Is there a way to find out?

In order to use a "legacy" caddy with a larger hard drive you need to disable the four pins in a cluster at one end of the pin array.

Some folks suggest bending the pins on the drive so they don't plug into the flexible connector. Unbending the pins if you buy a new computer may be a problem.

I cut the flexible circuit so that the four pins don't connect all the way through. I do this by cutting a notch through the circuit nearer the drive (the traces are farther apart there and you run less risk of cutting a trace you need). This will ruin the caddy for older drives, and if you aren't careful you can ruin it altogether. Not for the faint-of-heart!

Hope this helps
