You might want to turn off some sound effects:
  • start->Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Sounds
    • Windows
      • Exit Windows [None]
      • Start Windows [None]
      • Windws Logoff [None]
      • Windows Logon [None]
  • start->Control Panel->Power Options->Alarms
    • Low battery alarm->Alarm Action->Notification: Text
    • Critcal battery alarm->Alarm Action->Notification: Sound, Text
  • Access IBM->Configure->Personalize Access IBM->General->Enable sound [ ]
