Weird wireless problem

#1 Post by gg3761 » Wed Aug 03, 2005 12:23 am

The speed on my wireless connection changes around between 54Mbps on the high side to 24Mbps on the low. Everything is up to date on my T42 with the Intel 2200BG.
Any ideas? I know Intel has a newer driver than what IBM is showing. Do i mess with that?

you can try the newer drivers worse thing thaty can happen is you will have to role the drivers back. As for the problem you are having do you live in an appartment complex? If so you may be compeating with other 2.4 ghz devices. phones, routers, tv boadcasts, mp3 players, rf remote controles. you may also want to try to change the channel your router uses and see if that makes a difference.

Good luck

My intel wireless-B card in a T40 will do the same and I figured it's entirely due to interference from other routers in the area (my machine can pick up 7-11 other signals at any one time).

In fact Network Stumbler shows the S/N ratio of all those signals bouncing up and down wildly the whole time

Both are great ideas. I'm in a home but in a tightly packed hood. I pickup about 7 different signals at any given time on Netstumbler. My S/N ratio varies between 42 and 52. Is that good or normal? I'll try a different chanel tomorrow.
