Mini-dock and headphones question

#1 Post by CaptainMorgan » Wed Aug 03, 2005 8:46 am

So I have the Mini-dock all set up, I received it yesterday and the directions don't have sufficient information... it's mostly the same thing translated.. anyways, I plug in my headphones in the back of the Mini-dock and I then get sound in the headphones.. however, sound is also emitting from the thinkpad itself.. how is this possible and how do I quiet the thinkpad so only the headphones have sound??

Thank you

Okay, scratch that... I called IBM Technical support after fiddling with the speakers sets and adjustments... After talking with them they said that plugging speakers directly into the back of the dock itself does not send a communication to the Thikpad telling it to turn off system speakers and only emit from the headset.. he said the only way to turn off system speakers and use a headset is to plug in to the thinkpad itself..

Well, glad there's nothing wrong, but I certainly expected the system to quiet down after connecting headphones to the Mini-Dock... oh well. See it sucks because I positioned my thinkpad and Mini-dock in a location where the two sides, the left and right do not have sufficient room for peripherals.. guess Ill have to find a different spot for it..

Yup, same thing happens with the port replicator II -- it's rather annoying but my fix is simply to stick a plug with nothing attached into the T40 headphone jack.

Got any dead headphones you could cut a 3.5mm plug off?
