T42 good price?

#1 Post by Kenn » Fri Jun 25, 2004 5:34 pm

14"
P-M 735 1.7GHz
SXGA+
512MB (1 stick)
80GB
CDRW/DVDRW
ATI R9000 64MB
Intel 802.11 B/G
Standard battery
XP Pro
3-year On-site + accidental damage protection

Price: $1899

This is through a school offer. Sounds good to me, but I wanted to know if it was run-of-the-mill to those in the know?

IBM doesn't have that exact model on it's website...but judging by the surrounding models, I would say that you're getting a pretty good price. Btw, that's a R9600, not a R9000 :)

For reference, a 14.1" SXGA+, P-M 735, 256mb, 40gb, 64mb R9600, DVD/CDRW, 1 year warranty costs $1850 on IBM's website. You've got double the hard drive space, double the ram, and triple the warranty :)

Yeah, seems pretty good! This is for a friend through her school's edu program. I didn't even know IBM had accidental damage coverage!

Yeah, almost too good to be true, imo. My school's config is something like $2200 for 40GB, no DVD burner, 3-year depot.

Sorry, there is no model number or any kind of identifier. It's a paper flyer with a description of the specs from the on-campus university computer store.

Hey, nice call. So is this generically available (through EDU site or something) or is the price separate from the model?
