What is IBM's policy on exchanges?

#1 Post by the Jones » Wed Aug 03, 2005 11:23 am

Hi all,

I was curious what IBM's policy on exchanges for a different model is. I just (as in 2 days ago) recieved my new t43p. I got the t43p because I had excess scholarship money, and my university said I could use the money to buy a computer for educational use. Well anyway, I got the 2668-G7U, the current top of the line 14" model. But then, yesterday, IBM came out with the new t43p with the 100gb 7200 rpm drive.

So a few questions:

1. Will IBM do exchanges, or do I have to return my t43p and then reorder a new model?
2. Will they cross ship?
3. Can I keep my t43 until the new model comes?

Normally, I wouldn't really care that much. But since I paid for the "Best" 14" t43p, and then 2 days later it is no longer the "Best" I would kind of like to exchange it, or get part of my money refunded since the old models will almost definitely go down in price.

i'd like to know more about the return policy too, because if the Z series comes out on Sept.20th like I've been reading, then I'm getting one. but if it turns out to be much lower than the usual ThinkPad quality, I might just return it and get a cheaper Dell at that point, since I am looking for a machine that can at least do moderate gaming, but prefer ThinkPads.

There's a 30 days, no questions asked return policy. Send the unit back for a full refund and order the replacement you want.

No, they won't normally cross-ship unless you have enough $$ available on your credit card to order and pay for the replacement machine.

Here in Austria (EU) this doesn't seem to be valid any more. I had a problem with my Touchpad, and my (new) Notebook has to be repaired. The IBM hotline told me, that this was only valid until May 2005 ....

Has anyone some other information here in Europe/EU?

Ciao,
