2 basis sytem & networking questions

Two very basic questions:

1. What are the minimum system requirements (processor, RAM, HD space) to run Ubuntu?

2. Can you network Win XP & Ubuntu on a standard LAN (peer-to-peer) and if so how?

The Print of my CD-Set says:
32 MB RAM and 350 MB HDD-Space for minimal installation or 1.8 GB for typical installation.

File-Sharing between Windows and Ubuntu should work out-of-the-Box (if i remember right), but you would have to setup the Serverpart of Samba manually (security reasons).

edit: if you have already gotten a Ubuntu-CD or ISO you should find more detailed Information in the directory /doc/install/manual.

Thanks for the information. I haven't gotten the CD's yet, but apparently it doesn't take cutting edge tech to run it.

you know 32 MB will be OS and eventually a small Windowmanager (like XFCE ...). GNOME will need more RAM. And a hint: dont even think of trying the Live-CD on something like a P1-166, 64 MB. That is really no fun, you will die before you get to the GUI.

I was thinking more of an Athlon 600 box that I keep around for "experiments". It is nice to know, though, that it's a lower level of hardware than what MS recommends (which in the case of MS is usually the minimum level)
