T42 hdd cover

#1 Post by varicella » Wed Aug 03, 2005 4:06 pm

Hi all!

This will be my fifth week with my thinkpad now and I am loving it! =) There is just one annoyance: whenever pressure is applied to the hdd side of the lcd (i.e. picking up the laptop) a mild creak can be heard. At first I thought I had a poorly made laptop but I did not want to trade it. Well upon closer inspection, I noticed the hdd cover is not perfectly aligned with the rest of the beveling that surrounds the outer perimeter of the case. When I remove the hdd, the creaking disappears... Apparently the lcd/lid edge is perfectly molded to fit the side of the laptop, and the misaligned hdd cover is causing the lid to flex a bit when closing, thus creating the noise. Do you guys think IBM/Lenovo will replace it? Thanks.
