Disabling CPU power management on T42

#1 Post by admsteiner » Fri Jun 25, 2004 6:00 pm

Hi,

I have a T42. Even when plugged in, the computer sometimes goes at 200Mhz (lowest speed setting), other times it's at 5-600Mhz. Is there a way to set it up so that when plugged in it will always run at 1.7Ghz (Pentium M 735)

Thanks.

You can change the power profile to always on or desktop
If you are using windws for those speeds XP is notorious about reporting the wrong speed AFAIK the lowest speed is 600.
You can also adjust the power in the BIOS.

You can also change it in Control Panel>Power Options>Power Schemes. Or use the Battery Maximiser.

What's a good, simple (and preferrably free) utility to measure the current CPU operating speed? Also, is there anything that is coded for the Pentium M chips, that can turn on/off speedstepping only?

I suggest SpeedSwitchXP

http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/

It will give you all of the control over XP's power schemes that is available, plus it will show you the current processor speed, etc.

Speedswitch needs to be updated, it's showing my CPU as a Banias and not a Dothan.

I do hope it is XP not displaying the proper information, with my laptop plugged in now it's showing 600Mhz ;)

Trust me it's XP reporting incorrect operating speeds.
It has reported mine running as slow as 75Mhz and everything in between.

Yep. I went ahead and downloaded Intel's utility and it reported the correct speed.
