T43P and Port Replicator II

#1 Post by tssgmrr » Thu Aug 04, 2005 4:01 pm

The T43P is great. My only problem was that the way the VGA cable plugs in (on the side), it was getting crimped and I was afraid it would damage the connector on the machine..

To solve the problem I got the port replicator II (P4P6734). Now I'm going nuts because the machine won't boot in the replicator when my KVM switch is hooked up. I've traced it down to the mouse cord between the port replicator and the KVM switch. I tried premium cables, but nothing seems to work. I even tried the USB connection on the port replicator but the machine seems to need the PS2 connectors for an external keyboard and mouse.

Without the port replicator everything is great. With a separate mouse (yuch) everything works.

I don't want to damage the machine but I'll go crazy with more than one mouse. Anyone see this problem before and gotten around it?

This is a common problem. IBM port replicators and KVM swithches often don't work together. I worked around this problem by using a ps2 to usb adapter between my KVM and port replicator. The one I have converts the ps2 keyboard and mouse cables into one usb connection. I then plug the usb into the back port replicator (or the side of the computer) and it works great. Hope this helps
