T4x - SXGA+ vs UXGA, 15" vs 14.1" please advise

#1 Post by tseries » Thu Aug 04, 2005 5:51 pm

Hello,
I am moving from an A31 to a new T-series thinkpad. I would like to place an order today. I am very undecided in terms of the screen type, and would greatly appreciate your help.

1. I would like to get an IPS/Flexview screen if possible.
2. My old computer (A31) has a 15" SXGA+ display.
3. I have used a T41 with an 14.1" SXGA+ display.
4. Most of my work is software development using an IDE, also research using IE/Firefox, e-mail. I value screen real-estate.
5. I will use this computer every day, and frequently carry it with me.

A. The 15" UXGA looks interesting, but I'm afraid the resolution may be too high for the size, i.e. the text too small. Any advice, thoughts?

B. Is there a difference in availability for these display types, i.e. in time-to-ship?

C. Is the IPS/Flexview really better than regular TFT?

D. What kind of difference is there between these display types in terms of battery power useage and brightness?

E. What do you recommend as the best mix of a) screen real estate, b) portability (weight, size, battery life), c) visual experience (eye strain, etc)?

Thank you!

PS: Any other (non-display) suggestions are welcome. Things I'm looking for include Bluetooth, fast hard drive, >= 60GB HDD, fast processor, maybe fingerprint reader; I will upgrade RAM from Crucial.

PPS: Where can I look at and compare various T-series models in the San Francisco area?

Also: Is there a model with 14.1" SXGA+ with IPS/Flexview?

Nope, flexview is only avialable on the 15inch models.
