A20p upgrade to XP

I'm trying to upgrade the OS of my A20p to XP, however, I got an warning meesage that ask me to updte my bios first. The problem is my notebook was bought so long ago that the battery is no longer working and I cannot update bios without the battery. My question is there anyway to upgrade without the stupid battery? thanks in advance!

I think there is no way- protection mechanism for the mother board.

Would about to spend 30 $ for a new battery?
