Firefox and IBM Java 1.4.2

#1 Post by IWC-Lover » Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:30 pm

Hello all, I can't seem to get Firefox 1.0.6 to recognize and run the preinstalled Java application of my new T43p (2668-H5U.)

I went into Java's properties and checked the boxes for Mozilla and Netscape in the browsers tab but keep getting error messeges. On the other hand, Opera seems to recognize and run Java fine with no problems. I don't want to install another copy of Java just to keep Firefox happy if I can avoid it. Any idea?

Thanks.
Best regards,
Robert

Taking a look at my T42, when I open Control Panel, I see two Java's. One is the IBM Java Plug-in 1.4.1, the other Java Plug-in 1.4.1_07. On the IBM one, no boxes are checked for the browsers. On the other one, both the IE and Netscape browser boxes are checked. Interestingly, if I go into Add or Remove Programs, I show two Java 2 Runtime Environments installed. 1.4.1_02 and 1.4.1_07.

I have Firefox 1.0.4 installed, and have had no Java errors so far. I did notice that there is an Update tab in the Java Plug-in setup in Control Panel. Perhaps if you use that to update Java, you're problem will be solved. I don't remember ever updating or installing Java on my T42, but I guess it must have happened somewhere along the road.

I don't know if the above is much help to you - but maybe.
