I'm thinking about doing this on my T41 (2378DLU) and would also like to know if it would void the warranty

I think that if you do it in the authorized service then warranty won't be voided, but if you do it by yourselft then with hihg probability yes.
Let's go'n'restart :-)

Well, you could probably just replace the bluetooth card with the original modem card when you send it it for service. I doubt they would know the bt card was ever in.

Bluetooth Upgrade

#7 Post by Draxy518 » Mon Aug 08, 2005 10:41 am

Hi there,
I have an IBM T42 model # 2373-3XU

My model isn't listed as having the bluetooth antenna, but I do have the white cable labeled BT under my modem daughter card.

Does that mean that I actually do have the antenna or is the cable just there on all models anyway?

Thanks for any help!

The antenna is not present in all models but since you have it you just need to change the Modem Daughter Card to one with BT and you are off to the races. :D

i don't think IBM will notice if the problem is not relate to the bluetooth. They should be regard because we paid extra for buying their products.

I have no good news:
- no BT antenna for my T41 (2378-DLU), which I believe is crap because I'm sure others have installed one on my model.
- it will void the warranty.
:(

Well with that answer, I'm beginning to think that swapping the WLAN cards will also void the warranty. So having said that, whats the option around this?...sernding it in? Is it possible that you cannot have things like Bluetooth and the WLAN changed without voiding the warranty?

IBM rep says "If you short your system out due to your fault" = Void.

Does that mean if the installation (for the WLAN card in my case) is successful, the warranty is still in affect?

I can't see why adding a WLAN card would affect the warranty, once you don't damage anything in the process. If that was the case then adding RAM would be considered the same and they give instructions on how to do this in the manual you get with the TP.
In my case I want to add an antenna which would require me to not only open up under the keyboard but the lid (screen) as well. I can see why they would consider this voiding the warranty. Anyways someone mentioned that they installed the antenna under the keyboard and it worked fine, maybe that's what I'll do.
