560 upgrade questions

#1 Post by doro1211 » Sat Aug 06, 2005 4:19 am

How big a drive can I put in a Thinkpad 560? (Pentium 133, 40 mb ram, currently has a 2 gb drive).

Also, IBM's website does not seem to have bios upgrades for the thinkpad 560, only the 560Z and 560X. Can one of those be used?

Could I put a faster chip in this, like maybe a pentium 166 or 200 mmx? Has anyone tried that?

Thanks.

The biggest hard drive that's supported and recognized by the BIOS is 6gb, however, you can put bigger drives in using an overlay software but that can get complicated.

As far as CPU, it's permanent. You'll have to replace the the system board to replace the CPU and I really don't know if it'dbe worth the effort for a few extra megahertz.
