weird problem with no sound after update !!!

#1 Post by dtakias » Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:59 am

hi,

today i updated my t43 with the new bios, also did a windows update( installed 2 critical updates and the lenovo update).
just an hour before i tried to run a video and there was no sound.
device manager is ok, i tried everything with no luck.
i booted on suse 9.3 and there is no sound there as well, so i think it might be something with the new bios update or the laptop itself
my lappie is less than 2months old and never had problems with it, plus taking full care of it.
can anyone think of something , because i am going crazy here...
:?

I has no problem with the new BIOS updated. You can try to re-install your sound card driver by using "Software Installer" and click on the driver to re-install it.

hi,

i have tried that.
all the devices look fine. as i said even in linux i hear nothing although it looks like its working.
e.g. an audio/video file starts playback but nothing is heared from speakers. even if i connect headphones to line out nothing is heared...
wtf :?
i have reseted bios to defaults and searched through with no results..
the strange is that sound card is fully recognised/supported in win/linux

just to mention that i am not a newbie when it comes to pc hardware.

any other opinions pls post...

How's about uninstall the driver then reboot your system. When Windows discover the new hardware, don't let it install automatically. Go into your IBM Drivers folder and install it manually. Reboot the system again to see if it will work this time.

OK, one more try because I am running out of idea beside a whole system recovery or calling Lenovo.

If you have Windows System Restore Enable, try to restore it to the point before you update the BIOS. You can also try to roll back the driver but I don't see how it would help.
