I pulled the trigger

#1 Post by pipspeak » Sat Aug 06, 2005 1:59 pm

Thanks to everyone for info and advice over the last week... I finally pulled the trigger and bought a T43 2668-76U through the EPP (and discovered in the process that EPP prices can be hard to understand)

I decided to forgo a DVD burner, fingerprint reader and 7K60 drive (2686-DGU plus warranty upgrade) in favor of a bigger hard drive, bluetooth, faster CPU, the IBM wireless card, and a $50 saving. I'll put that $50 towards a dual-layer DVD burner. Any suggestions?

Now I just have to play the estimated shipping date game.

Hand

I also pulled the trigger thanks to the tax free weekend.

The only problem I'm thinking about is that if it's worth to purchase 3 year warranty instead of a better harddisc + dvd burner. Plus the Visa extended warranty, the DGU model would have 2 years warranty in total. Acutally the performance difference between 1.86G and 2G would not be that noticable, and the 60G harddisc is actually enough for me.

BTW, the dual-layer burner you are talking about is for thinkpad only or just some kinda external one?

Tax free weekend? I guess not for Californians. Sounds like you went for the DGU... I'm still wondering if I made the right move.

Dual-layer burner would be an external USB unit, nothing to do with the Thinkpad Ultrabay.

It's for North Carolina.

Actually I ordered 76U, just wondering if I should cancel the order and buy DGU instead.

I have the NEC ND-6500 in an external case. The burn quality is very good. Much better than the ThinkPad burners in my opinion. The newer 6650 is now out. It adds 4x DVD+/-R DL, 8x +RW and 6x -RW. It is $100 on NewEgg. Case runs about $20 on ebay. I keep the extra battery in the bay. Good Luck.
