OCZ memory for X32

#1 Post by gnatlee » Mon Aug 08, 2005 12:44 am

Hi All,

I just got two 512 MB sodimms by OCZ from Fry's today. Put them into my X32, and they seem to run okay. When I look at the system in control panel, it says that the memory is 1 GB total , but running at 221 Mhz. I thought that it's supposed to run at 333 Mhz. So I put back the original 256 MB samsung sodimm that came with the laptop by itself and it still says 221 Mhz. Is that normal? Or did putting in the OCZ ram change the setting in anyway so that the system memory is running at a slower speed?

If anyone has an X32, could you check the memroy under the control panel to see what speed your memory is runnning at?

thanks

I'm currently trying to find a good memory test program. Will post the results when I find one.

NEvermind with the 221 Mhz, that changes to 599 Mhz when the laptop is plugged in (perhaps this is the clock speed). SO it's probably not related to the memory chips I put in. I ran CPU-Z, and the SPD shows 166 Mhz with CAS of 2.5 so it seems like the chips are running at 333? However under Memory in CPU-Z, it shows 266 Mhz. But I remember reading someone's post that this is a well know error, and that as long as the SPD shows 166 it's okay.

By design, the memory controller limits the PC2700 333 MHz DDR1 speed to 266 MHz. The X32 offers more battery life as a result. :)

Is there anyway to change that setting? When it's plugged in I would like it to run at the faster memory speed. Afterall, I did pay for 333 Mhz memory.

no, i'm pretty sure that the x31, x32, only run at pc2100 speeds. it doesn't matter if you get a faster memory, cause your system doesn't support it
