external speakers

#1 Post by jsr244 » Mon Aug 08, 2005 11:33 am

I have external speakers hooked up through the port replicator. Does anyone know whether I can turn off the thinkpad internal speaker so that I can use the volume control knob on the ext. speakers to turn down the sound (like when I take a phone call)?

With both the port replicator and dock the TP internal speakers keep on playin' even with external speaker plugged into to dock/replicator.

The only way to stop them playing is to plug something into the headphone jack on the Thinkpad itself, even if it's just a 3.5mm plug attached to nothing (go buy one at Radioshack).

If you have a port replicator you don't need to go out and buy a plug attachment to get the internal speakers to be quiet all you have to do is turn the volume down on the internal speakers with the hardware buttons built into the keyboard.

When you undock your laptop and you want to hear sound from the internal speakers all you need to do is turn up the volume with the hardware buttons.

NOTE: You need to turn down the volume to nothing on the internal speakers not mute them because that will turn off all the sound coming from your laptop including the docking station.
