how best to treat the LCD backlight?

#1 Post by t41user » Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:50 pm

I use my T41 off and on all day. I just keep it on, though my monitor is set to shut off after 25 minutes of being idle. So my monitor comes on and goes off about a handful of times a day. Is this bad for my monitor? Would it be better for the life of the backlight just to leave the monitor on the whole time I have the computer on?

No, let it turn off when not in use.

25 minutes seems a long time, why not 5 or 10?

All of mine are set for 10 minutes.

If that monitor is CRT then it does not matter. But if it is LCD then it is better to turn it off whilst not in service. My LCD on thinkpad is set to turn off after 5 mins. It's better due to the backlight life.
Let's go'n'restart :-)

one more question on T41 LCD backlight

#4 Post by t41user » Mon Aug 08, 2005 7:37 pm

Thanks for the input - I will adjust accordingly.

I was wondering whether whatever the backlight does as it comes on might tax it more than whatever the backlight does when it stays on. That's the reason I had the shutoff time set for a longer length of time. But if my question about the backlight coming on taxing the backlight doesn't make, and I'll rest assured with setting the shutoff time much shorter.
