Thinkpad T20 media card failure

Hi
I bought a used T20 from eBay about 4 months ago for my daughter, who is going to college in London to study nursing. She has informed me today that the media card has failed on it, and thinks she may have to buy another laptop. Is this fixable and is it worth fixing, value wise? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as finances are tight!

Assuming he means the video chip, it is soldered to the system board and you would need to replace the whole system board. Check on ebay, but it may cost more than the laptop is worth.

Before you go crazy though, I'd want to know EXACTLY how the daughter determined that it is bad - it's a pretty uncommon failure. Much more common are the LCD cable, backlight, or inverter.

Thanks for the replies, guys; the info I got was second hand through a phone call to my wife. I`m waiting for my daughter to get in touch with me personally and I`ll hopefully get the full symptoms etc. from her. The trouble is she lives 450 miles from here and works shifts in a nursing home, so all I can do is leave a message on her phone and wait for her to get back to me! I`ll put the full info here as soon as poss.

talked with my daughter and she has made up her mind she can`t trust her T20 anymore; so she`s going to buy another laptop anyway
Just for the information, apparently when she powers up the whole desktop is off to one side, sometimes it freezes and sometimes it just doesn`t work at all!
