The Biolithic Sleeve: The Perfect Fit!

#1 Post by anthony » Wed Aug 10, 2005 7:45 pm

Rec'd my Biolithic Sleeve directly from Australia. It is officially a hit in my book. It fits the 14.1" T43 like a glove. No, really! Just like a glove. Think of how a wet suit fits a super model. That's how this bright blue neoprene baby clings to the unit. Who says ThinkPads can't be sexy?

It is lightly padded and fully lined, but very slim. Even the dual zipper has an inner lining to protect the unit from zipper scratches. This is not one of those heavily padded, steel lined laptop bags that protect your unit from falling meteorites. It is more like a padded book cover to protect from scratches, bangs, and bruises when your backpack or briefcase. I use it inside This Case, my TransNote Folio.

The 14" Powerbook model fits the 14" IBM model perfectly with the 6 cell and stretches to fit the 9 cell. I'm not sure it would fit a 15" model, but here are the measurements: 32.3 cm x 25.9 cm x 3.42 cm. But it is stretchy.

enjoy! :D

edited to add correction: I ordered the 14 inch iBook model. There is no 14" powerbook model. Sorry...

I only see a 14 inch iBook, but no 14 inch powerbook. Exactly which one do you order?

Thanks

That is exactly what I've been looking for. I want as minimal as possible, and everything I can find is for 15"ers.

So, which one did you order? I got my credit card out...

Sorry. My mistake. It was the 14" iBook.

Oh yeah! And the microfiber screen protector and the separate accessory bag are included. The bag will hold your AC adapter, li-polymer battery, a few CDs, and a candy bar. But it is not wide enough to carry a spare 6-cell battery. The screen protector is an orange version of the ShaggyMac and it covers the full key pad. 8)

Would keeping the laptop in the sleeve while using like it is shown on the screen cause heat issues?

Lord knows why anyone would need to use it in a sleeve for long enough periods to have to worry about heat. But some folk take their food off the tray in the cafeteria, and some leave it on. Lord love 'em all. It takes a village...

But look again at the picture. It isn't really "in" the sleeve. The sleeve unzips on three sides and lays open flat. If you use the notebook while in place, it is really "on" the sleeve -- like on a placemat. But if there were any possible reason to be worried about that, moving it off the sleeve shouldn't be an ordeal.

I need to say that I've only had my T43 for a bit over a month and I haven't experienced any of those "heat issues" that keep popping up in threads. Certainly no more so than my Dell or my Toshiba. Hard for me to relate to the hoopla.

a question:
is there anything INSIDE the sleeve that might tend to abrade the edge or top or bottom of your thinkpad..?

Not that I can tell. It is a single layer of neoprene with a nylon zipper closure. It really does reminds me of a wet suit. The smooth spongy inside of the ~1/8" thick neoprene fabric is all that there is inside. The zipper is stitched outside the fabric so that when it zips, the fabric forms flaps on the inside between the unit and the zipper. Not unlike a wet suit. (Does that make sense?)

But that's all there is. The fabric and the zipper. The construction, like the fit, is very minimal.

Yes, you can see the pictures in my review: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... bitolithic

And it's a tiny bit of a stretch, but nothing bad

Works perfectly for me.
I might add that I had the sleeve shipped from Australia to Sweden, worked perfectly and was very fast! Thumbs up!

Can the TP "slip" in and out of the Biolithic sleeve when only opening the narrow side of the zipper? I am looking to buy a sleeve for my backpack to use in the verticle orientation. So far, considering Biolithic and Waterfield ($$$).
