The IBM recovery CD's are pretty much unattended once the Hidden Protected Area has been established. ... JD Hurst

I made a slipstream CD for Windows XP Pro, with Intel's Raid Drivers (not needed on the T43), using the information I found in two magazine articles. The first one was in Maximum PC, and the second in PC magazine. (There is a sticky on this forum that covers this as well, but I haven't read it, so I really can't comment on it).

The part about updating the the files in the Windows folder (where you are building the CD file structure) with SP2, didn't work with Maximum Pc's solution for me. I had to use the solution I found in PC Magazine for this. But generally I used Maximum PC's solution, with parts of PC Magazine's solution thown in.

I was unable to make a CD that would boot using IBM RecordNow! on my T42, or using Roxio on my desktop PC. I did make a CD that would boot using Nero on my old ThinkPad 600E. I would recommend using a CD/RW disc for experimenting, until you get the procedure down properly, then burn one on a CD/R which is a more universal and reliable medium. I made a few coasters before I started using the CD/RW disc for experimenting. After making the CD, see if it will boot up (and use your raid or scsi drivers - if applicable).

pfft....you don't need to know all that - all you need is nlite. That will do all of the above with a pretty GUI. You might also want to check out unattended windows for guides on how to do stuff. I have used nlite to make custom slipstream cd's for 4 different computers, including hotfixes, tweaks, unattended installs, and more!

Looks like dokein found a better mousetrap. 8)

I haven't researched this issue in some months. I've seen nlite mentioned in a couple of posts for getting a stripped down version of Windows, but I hadn't seen anything about using it to slipstream. I never went to their website before tonight - until after reading dokein's post.

I have created a unattended cd and i am able to install widows xp without any interaction. I found the necessary swithes also for the all the software i needed like Nero,CloneCD,Norton Antivirus etc..

But I would like install the Drivers like ATI Driver, WIFI, Bluetooth,PowerMeter etc without any interaction.

Is it possible to install the IBM Software installer with some kind of silent switch and then run this software to upadate all the driver from Drivers & IBMTools folder.

You can slipstream drivers right into the install - however these are only raw .inf files, not the complete driver app (ie just the ati driver, not the control panel or anything else). You probably wont be able to do that with out writing some custom scripts for their installation process. I'd suggest you take a look at these forums as they can tell you a lot more that I can. There is also a link on the unattended windows site for some helpful apps I posted in the previous reply.

I wouldn't get into it too much though, remember: the slipstream cd is made so that you don't have to do all those little windows registry tweaks, customizations, updates or sit there and watch XP install itself. Its job is not to act as a complete restoration - that is what backup images are for.

I am not home where I have all my information, but as I recall you can install all your drivers using the slipstream CD. I did it to install the Intel Raid Application Accelerator driver as in my example. If I recall, I got the information from the Maximum PC article and PC Magazine article that I linked to above.

You need to have all the drivers and associated files in a directory on the CD. You also need to edit a couple of text files. It took me a couple of days to get it right, although part of the problem was the software I was using to burn the CD.

I could give you more detailed information if I was home, but maybe you can figure it out from the above.
