x41 Tablet, Non Tablet Question???

#1 Post by Gromet » Sat Aug 13, 2005 8:48 am

Hey there everyone.

First post on Thinkpads (Love the Site).

I just recieved my first Thinkpad ever, an X41 Tablet. Over the past two months I have tested a bunch of Tablet. From Toshiba to HP, Fujitsu, Motion and IBM. I have a brand new Motion LE1600 Sitting on my desk. We bought them about two weeks ago. My IBM came in on Thursday. The Mtion is going to someone else. This X41 Tablet is AMAZING, I love this thing. The weight is amazing. Smaller & Lighter than the Le1600. Basically the same battery life as the Motion with the Extended Battery (when using the IBM 8 cell - 4 1/2 to 5 hours). My biggest gripe about the Motion was the VA screen. Absolutely georgous screen when it's clean, which it is impossible to keep that way. use it for two minutes and the screen is a mess. you sit there with your pen in one hand and a microfiber cleaning cloth in the other.

Anyway onto my question. The little erser tip mouse on my x41 does not stay put. When I take my finger off the mouse seems to float a bit. this can get VERY annoying??? What can I do?

Thanks in advance...

Don't rest your finger on it when you're not actively moving the pointer. It tries to recalibrate itself, and you're interfering with it.

I don't have my hands ANYWHERE close to the laptop no less the pointer... but it still floats.

Does it move all the way across the entire screen? If so, you trackpoint's defective.

How odd... I thought you said:

That seems to indicate you've been using the mouse, and if you rest your finger on it when you're not actively moving the pointer, it interferes with the calibration process. You don't think you're touching it? Well, for years, they've all said that, and they usually are without realizing it.

As pphilipko said, if, when you take your finger off the TrackPoint, the pointer shoots across the screen to the edge and stays there, the keyboard is bad. That doesn't seem to be the problem, though, from your original description.

Also, the calibration takes three seconds.

I remember that my old Toshiba's AccuPoint was a *LOT* more forgiving about leaving your finger on it, but it also took five seconds to calibrate...

That said, when I first read it, it almost sounded like the TrackPoint CAP was coming off...
