Firefox and thinkpad scroll button...

#1 Post by byron » Sun Jun 27, 2004 9:13 am

running firefox version 0.9

seems to work for a vertical scroll in the browser tab... but the following things don't seem to work in firefox with the scroll button.

drop down menus will not scroll
horizontal scroll will not work while browsing

anyone figure out how to fix these problems?

In firefox, horizontal scrolling doesn't work for me but menu/drop-downs scrolling does. You have to select the object with a single left click somewhere in the area (in the frame or highlight the menu--but it must be done with the mouse) before attempting to scroll. In essence you have to give the object focus.

I'm so used to it now that if I don't get immediate scrolling, I just do a quick left click and then try again. It never fails for me.

tried it and still nothing.... maybe we are talking about different things.. try this...

click on the drop down menu in the middle labeled "Step 1" and try to scroll that list. I am unable to even after left clicking on it once to "drop" the choices down and still nothing.

thanks.

Hi Byron. Did you ever resolve this? I have the same problem.

CyberDude, I don't think there is anyone who can use their trackpoint in Firefox to scroll horizontally or in a form select dropdown list.
If they can, they are keeping it a secret. :?

... I am waiting for this feature as well. I didn't realize that I encounter so many form select dropdown lists. :!:

I searched the forums and haven't seen any progress made on this. I am *dying* for horizontal scroll capabilities, as well as drop-down list capabilities.

The fact that some sites don't register word wrapping, and the words scroll off to the right of the screen are bound to drive a man insane.

Has anyone found a workaround/fix/update/hack?

Thanks

I can't scroll in a form, but horizontal scrolling works just fine in Firefox 1.0.4. All I have to do is set the trackpoint properties for the middle button to "neither" instead of "scrolling" or "magnifying glass".

yeah - i hear ya - i've definitely fallen in love with the ibm scrolling (as opposed to the type of scrolling when set to neither). There's much more control when browsing this way :)

I appreciate the input no less.

Still wondering if anyone else has any updates on this issue?

Thanks,
Andy

Normal horizontal scrolling does not work using the center scroll button and firefox/mozilla. Also, vertical scrolling in a dropdown menu does not work using the center scroll button and firefox/mozilla. Vertical scrolling works on webpages and also in a textarea of a form (just not the dropdown).

It does work with IE, however (just not Firefox or Mozilla browsers).

This is not webpage dependant.
