#1 Post by noel81 » Sat Aug 13, 2005 10:16 pm

Is it possible for me to use my Xphone as a modem on my T42?

my Xphone and my T42. You own both, why don't you test them yourself?

Nothing about the T42 or any computer with would prevent you from tethering to your phone either by cable or bluetooth. The computer does not care where the signal is coming from.

Most people asking this question are trying to avoid purchasing the telecom's laptop wireless data plan and use a cheaper PDA plan for internet access. Many smart phones can work as modems and allow you to do that. Others do not. The capability is specific to your phone.

Please be aware that under the terms of most phone plans, this is not an allowed use. Telecoms can detect whether the downlinks are from a PDA or a laptop. And some, notably Cingular, have been known to slap folk with large per KB bills or cancel their plan altogether. Check a phone-oriented blog for more info. (try howardforums.com)

Or buy a laptop wireless data plan from your provider. :D

Ideapad purch Oct 2013. Cannot recommend.

It seems like it might be possible, but until you made this post, I had never even heard of an Xphone.

While it is fine to post on this forum looking for answers, I suggest you will probably get faster results posting on Xphone's forum. There are probably more Xphone owners with Windows-based laptops, then there are T42 owners with an Xphone.
