finger scanner for other purposes?

#3 Post by BigWarpGuy » Mon Aug 15, 2005 12:43 pm

Since it does scan your finger to compare it with the one on record, I guees accessing it for other purposes would depend on the program and if it can access the finger scanner(?).

So far, I haven't seen any evidence that the scanner presents a bitmap image to the host at all.

It may just extract the template/minutia data and send that, or it may send nothing at all, storing it all internally. That would be my preference -- no fingerprint data on the USB bus or stored on the host.

Just the 21 hardware "slots" to store patterns, and a go/no-go indication.

I know the power-on password is limited in number-of-fingers, but is the WinXP login limited as well? If not, that would imply that Windows FP Logon itself is doing the comparison.
