ThinkPad newbie having problems with 2631 docking station

Can anyone help? I am having problems using a 2631 docking station with
a T21 running WXP Pro. The dock is plugged into the mains but shows no
sign of actively operating. When I dock the T21 if running it generates
an error about a USB device having malfunctioned (even though there is
no external USB device attached to the dock). The T21 does not charge
on the dock but the NIC is passing through and the dock's power switch
is obviously connecting to the T21.

Am I missing a driver file or is the dock probably faulty?

The dock or the Thinkpad mainboard(planar) is bad.

Although some XP installs will flag the IDE controllers in Device Manager and some will not, the controllers, ports, PCI slot and UltraBay will all work either way in XP.
