XPP forgets password after hibernation

#1 Post by Foyle » Sun Jun 27, 2004 3:13 pm

Ive encountered this problem recently when I hibernate my T42. I am forced to reboot which, thankfully, works. I havent figured out if it is because of open applications. Any ideas?

I'm guessing that you mean that when you wake up from hibernation, and type in your password, you can't log in. If that's not it, please clarify.

If it is, this is usually because either the caps lock or num lock is on. Check green LEDs, to see which is the case. If it's the num lock (arrow with a "1" in it), turn it off with Shift + Scroll Lock before trying to type in your password.

I checked both the cap lock and num lock, it didnt matter either way, my password does not log me in until I reboot. I am avoiding the problem by not requiring the password upon wake up, but Id rather have the security of password protection.

Did you try just hitting the ENTER key on wakeup without entering a password?

Do you mean standby? Instead of hibernate?

Hibernate will appear as a new boot on the machine but the text says something like "resuming windows" vs. "Starting Windows" as it would for a cold boot.

Enter prompts for the password.

I use hibernate, dont care for suspend (on my old notebook the battery would run down if I didnt use it for a couple of days, so I got used to hibernate).

Do you have any other passwords set? Hard drive, power on, etc?

Do you use an external keyboard?

Also does it behave the same if you hit Fn+F12 to enter hibernation, as if you just let it go in by timer?

You've got me Foyle, never heard of this.
