Could anyone tell me the difference, please, between 'total physical memory' and 'available physical memory'?
My T41p has the former as 512 mb and the latter as 159.85 mb. Can I alter the available memory to 512 mb to increase the performance of my machine? It doesn't seem to be running too fast and I'm pretty sure I have no viruses.

Total physical memory is the amount of RAM you have installed. Available physical memory is what you have left of your total physical memory after loading your OS, drivers, programs, etc. into memory.Jonathan Cordery wrote:Could anyone tell me the difference, please, between 'total physical memory' and 'available physical memory'?
You can increase available memory by removing programs that you don' t use or add more RAM to increase your total physical memory.
What are you doing that makes you think your computer is not too fast? What CPU setting are you running with (low, adaptive, max cpu)? Are you on battery or on AC?
