hibernate not working

#1 Post by skanky » Wed Aug 17, 2005 1:50 am

having a weird problem with my X22, occasionally when i try and hibernate, the screen will blank but before the winxp logo and the hibernate bar comes on, it just goes to a black screen with a flashing cursor and just hangs.

running sp2, fully patched, any ideas?

A)
1> uncheck the hibernate option in power properties & restart
2> run errror checking on C, Right-click C choose properties choose Tools Click Check Now and check both of the option boxes that show there before Clicking Start.
3> then put the check back.

B)
run RAM diagnostics

C)
there is some software, older software, that simply does not like hibernate.
Microsoft Office 97 is one common example.
try to pin it to a specific program by trial and process of elimination.

Also, after switching off hibernate function and restarting your computer, go in and delete the hiberfil.sys file, which usually sits in the root C: directory. It might have become corrupted.

When you switch the hibernate function back on and restart the machine, a new hiberfil.sys file will be re-created.
