Advice on un-needed IBM processes

I'm trying to cull some of the 40-odd processes running on startup on a T43 before I start installing major apps. What do these do? I googled them but did not come up with much to tell me what exactly they do and what happens if they're disabled.

ati2evxx.exe (ati graphics related, but I have two of these running. Is that normal?)
DLG.exe (no idea if this can be disabled)
ibmpmsvc.exe
ibmprc.exe
rrpcsb.exe (rapid restore... can someone explain what happens if I disable/uninstall this?)
TPHDEXLG.exe
TPHKMGR.exe (I uninstalled hotkey manager but this still loads on startup)
TPONSCR.exe
vtserver.exe

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding:

DLG is a small program that monitors the Ethernet port to see when a new LAN is plugged in. This somehow notifies the Access Connection tool to change profiles or prompt.

ibmpmsvc is something to do with the Power Manager controls, and uses the Power Manager driver.

Rapid Restore is useful only if you use it to back up your machine regularly. Once you make your Recovery & Product CD/DVD set, you can safely uninstall it and even reclaim the HPA partition if you like. You only need either the HPA partition or the CDs to recreate your factory hard drive.

TPONSCR is the program that puts up the green "on screen display" text when you adjust volume, brightness, and so on. IF you remove it, these features still work, they just won't pop up the helpful indicators.

vtserver.exe is somehow related to the IBM Logon tools and fingerprint scanner. When you power on and authenticate with your fingerprint, Logon somehow detects this and has a "virtual token". I don't know what apps use this or share it, but if you use fingerprint login, you probably need it. If you use the fingerprint scanner ONLY for the power-on password, then you can probably revert to the standard WinXP logon program without fingerprint support or virtual tokens.

Thanks... I think the second ati process is related to the ati hotkey app, so there's another one that can go.

I'm not planning to use the FPR so I guess I can uninstall it and vtserver will go back to sleep.

Still curious why TPHKMGR still loads, even though the hotkey manager is uninstalled. Also still curious what TPHDEXLG is.

Any info appreciated.
