TP600x: changing bezel (front panel) of toshiba cdrom to dvd

#1 Post by verflixt64 » Thu Aug 18, 2005 3:27 am

Hi to all,
I am new here in this forum due to the fact that I recently bought a TP600x and need a point to discuss on this thing.
At present I need some help or tips to change the front cover of the old, internal cd-rom to a newly ebayed dvd-rom (both original from toshiba). I have changed the frame of my old cdrom to the new dvd-rom. this was no problem as there were some screws, the rest fitted perfectly. Now it works quite well, but the front panel (bezel) is missing so it looks ugly...
from looking on the old cdrom I suspect i will destroy the panel when trying to remove it. So there must be a trick on how to do this job.
all suggestions on how to solve this "small" problem are appreciated

regards

The front panel or bezel should not have been missing on the DVD-ROM that you bought from e-bay. I also bought a DVD-ROM from e-bay for my 600E. While the front bezel wasn't an exact match for the IBM one, it nevertheless was acceptable. I did have to transfer the caddy from my old drive to the new one. I don't believe the front panel or bezel is easily removable, without doing possible damage.

I am sure it is a standard model (SD-C2302) which can be found at ebay for several notebooks. for this reason i was sure the front panel is also exchangable. I will ask the vendor how she got it off and put it on the other drive.

If you have an original 600X Toshiba drive, then your front bezel should be compatible with your new Toshiba SD-2302.

Here is a list of Toshiba drives that I think should be compatible:
Compatible Toshiba Drives and Bezels for 600 series

The front bezel on these Toshiba drives should be able to be removed entirely by just taking out screws and unclipping a set of 3-4 "tabs" that are holding it in place. I can't recall exactly where all the tabs are -- but I replaced mine without need for any cutting or breaking.

thats it! a bit pressing and moving of the thing and the clips (thanks phil) are open!
it is not easy to describe how to do it. but if one looks on the bottom of the inner cage of the drive (where you put the cd on the other side) one can see the first clip on the left side. it has to be pressed down. there are two other clips inside, besides the blue release button. they are not easy accessed, one has to move, press and tow the bezel. mine got off and is placed on the other drive.
