Rob...I just got my T42, about two days ago. You think there's good reason to update the BIOS?

Hi STS06,

I have had mine since 10 august 2005, so I'm brand new like you :wink:
As for updating the bios, if you have no trouble with your notebook at this moment, I think I would not "recommend" it as such.

On the other hand, I myself see no harm in having the latest update running.

So, you will have to see for yourself;

<3.17 (1RETDLWW)>
Note:
This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program
Version 3.04 (or higher).

- (New) Enhancement of the security function on power-on:
When the hard disk password is set, regardless of other
passwords settings, Wake On Lan from power off state does not
work.
- (Fix) Changed the Finger Senser default timeout value from 13 seconds
to 40 seconds.
- (Fix) Fix the re-enumeration started after restart from low battery
suspend in the BIOS setup.
I updated this morning, and thus far, I see no differences. I do not have a fingerprint reader and I do not use wake on lan. Don't know what the last one is because I don't let me battery go that low.

ok got another question related to this thread. I have gotten 2 bios updates now through the Software Installer and both have run smooth. My question is will the Software Installer prompt for/install a new embedded controler update? I don't think the embedded control has been updated since I've had my TP (2 months) but I want to know if I have to seek out these updates myself as I am addicted to updates and must have the most current version.

Yes, it will (or it has in the past). If I recall correctly, if there are BIOS and Controller updates at the same time, it will also install them in the correct order (Controller then BIOS).
