ThinkPad 770E Questions (Memory and Video)

#1 Post by dpcayealmc » Fri Aug 19, 2005 2:40 pm

I acquired a few years ago a ThinkPad 770E, and I have a few questions. I remember seeing a ThinkPad flash screen when the system starts up. It was a black screen with the ThinkPad logo in the lower left hand corner, it disappeared and I don't know how if at all possible to get it back.

I also put two 128 megabyte sticks of memory into it, but when the system boots it only reports 228 megs of memory installed, any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

one is reporting its size as 64Mb because it is a PC66/PC100 stick, sell the PC100 128Mb and get a PC66. DOesn't matter if it is PC66 compatible, if it PC100 capible it will only report 64Mb in a 770E/ED.

The thinkpad logo only appears the first time that the BIOS goes to POST. Like if you take the CMOS baterry out.

Is there anyway to get to the logo to appear every time?

The max memory that the 770E/ED can take is 416Mb. You can do that with a 256Mb PC100 (will report full size) a 128Mb PC66 and the onboard 32Mb PC66.

Mine is reporting 352Mb right now because I have a PC100 128Mb in it so the BIOS is only actually seeing 64Mb. If I still had one of the PC66 IBM 128Mb that I sold then it would be maxed out at 416Mb.

I'm not going to bother with getting another PC66 again because I already bought a 770X and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can put in my new heatsink, 750Mhz Processor, and 512Mb of memory. :)

That's Awesome (About 416 Megs)

I only thought I could stick 256 max in my 770E, the thought of stuffing more in is awesome!
